If you haven’t thought about how your Poshmark business is effecting the planet, now is the time. As a reseller, you’re already doing your part to save clothing from the landfill but there’s more that you can do to become a sustainable seller. There are simple, sustainable swaps that you can make in your Poshmark packaging to make it more eco-friendly. These tips aren’t just great for the planet, they’re great for your wallet too.
The amazing thing about Poshmark is that you’re in control of your business. You pick your pricing, packaging, and how many items you list. On the flip side, that means that it’s up to you to evaluate yourself. If something isn’t working in your business or, let’s say, isn’t exactly great for the planet, you have to fix it yourself. Basically, you’re in charge of how eco-friendly your Poshmark packaging is.
While there are tons of different companies out there that have designed items to help you out, becoming more sustainable doesn’t have to mean spending more money. Yes, the compostable mailers are incredible and the paper tape with the fun branding is amazing, but it’s not needed. There are tons of different ways to become more sustainable and save money at the same time.
USPS offers free boxes to all resellers. These boxes are free, recyclable, and compostable. According to the USPS website, even the adhesive they use is plant-based so it’s non-toxic if composted. How’s that for making your job as a reseller easy? As a base, you already have everything you need to run a sustainable business. Now you just have to think about how you can go above and beyond.
Here are three different ways to make your Poshmark packaging even more sustainable. You can implement these right away and the best part is that they will cost you absolutely nothing.
1. Choose to ship in boxes over mailers.
Cardboard is capable of being recycled multiple times, while plastic can only go through one cycle. On top of that, cardboard is biodegradable while plastic can take up to 1,000 years to break down. Choosing to ship in cardboard boxes is a simple and more sustainable way to send a package. There are a ton of different sized boxes on the USPS website, from single item space to boxes that will hold bundles. Stock up on a few different sizes and skip the bubble mailers.
2. Use recycled wrapping.
There’s tissue paper at just about every single celebration from birthdays to baby showers. Next time that your at one of these events, ask the person to save the wrapping for you. You can reuse this in your Poshmark packaging and give it a new life.
You don’t have to make a big deal out of collecting the wrapping. In the past, I’ve sat next to the person unwrapping presents, helped hand her items, and then quietly folded the wrapping as she unwrapped. No one even noticed what I was doing.
3. Opt for no wrapping at all.
If you’re looking to do the most (in the best way), skip the wrapping altogether. I’ve seen some of the cutest Poshmark packaging that rolls the clothing instead of folding. This made it fit nicely and securely in the box and also made it look great for the buyer. Write a little note on the inside of the box flap and you have yourself truly sustainable packaging.
Becoming a more sustainable seller is better for you and the planet. Not only are you saving money on supplies, but you’re making the world a better place to live. There’s nothing better than that.
